The new National Police Wellbeing Survey, delivered by Leapwise in partnership with national policing bodies, has recently gone live across England and Wales. Over the last two weeks, more than 26,000 officers, staff, PSCOs, specials, and volunteers have shared their experiences. We want to hear from more of the workforce in the final weeks of the survey.
A tool for strategic insight and action
Wellbeing in UK policing is under increasing pressure. Officers and staff face rising demand, stretched resources, exposure to trauma, and long-term fatigue – all within a fast-changing operational and social environment. At the same time, organisational culture, workloads, and limited access to support services can impact morale and engagement.
This new national wellbeing survey isn’t just another data collection exercise. It has been designed to be a system-wide tool to support both national insight and local improvement planning.
It aims to gather actionable insight on the key drivers of wellbeing, drawing on the latest research and input from officers, staff, HR and occupational health leads, staff associations, and senior policing leaders to deliver insights to support a healthier, more effective workforce.
Healthy organisations don’t happen by accident. They are shaped by leaders who listen, adapt, and act with purpose. Unlocking workforce insight is the first step toward building the conditions for people to thrive.
The National Police Wellbeing Survey is built to:
- Empower the workforce to raise concerns and highlight improvement opportunities
- Inspire and inform action to improve wellbeing, culture, and service delivery
- Track the impacts of changes and respond to the evolving policing environment
- Simplify the survey landscape reducing duplication and burden
A tool for leaders to make a difference
As a leader, understanding what drives employee wellbeing and engagement is crucial for building a motivated and productive team – as National Police Wellbeing Service Director Andy Rhodes wrote in a Leapwise blog.
The survey is designed to help you cut through the noise to enable policing leaders to understand what matters most to the workforce, identify key drivers of engagement and wellbeing, and prioritise where to focus and plan improvements.
Effective change doesn’t begin with a strategy. It begins with understanding. When leaders truly understand their people, they can create the clarity, confidence, and connection needed to drive progress.
The survey therefore helps leaders move from feedback to meaningful, targeted action through:
- Clearer questions, grounded in what matters most to officers and staff
- Faster turnaround, with initial data dashboards available at survey close
It’s short and accessible – taking less than 10 minutes to complete – and covers the full breadth of the policing family. All ranks. All roles. All voices. You can access it directly through your local force.
From feedback to change
This survey is a catalyst for continuous improvement. It’s a way to ensure that changes are meaningful, measurable, and sustained.
Improvement is not a one-off project but a shared journey. By embracing transparency, listening deeply, and committing to ongoing dialogue, policing organisations can evolve to meet the complex challenges facing this crucial public service.
