Meet Sean and his passion for public policy and organisational strategy

Our Team is the reason we consistently deliver exceptional results for our clients, we want to introduce you to our team members who are the driving force behind Leapwise.

Meet Sean Cregten

Sean Cregten is a Director at Leapwise. He helps public sector organisations improve their strategy and decision making. Sean works collaboratively with leaders to define their long-term strategy, understand how to best place their investments, and help them develop the people, and structures to get results.

Professional Experience

Prior to Leapwise, Sean worked across the New Zealand public and third sector on business cases, economic advice, and transformation and capability programmes. He has a keen interest in dual-mandate organisations, regulatory design, and in how to tackle wicked problems that ‘fall through the cracks’ of traditional organisational structures.

Sean has experience getting endeavours off the ground, including launching digital start ups, creating advisory offerings, and developing methods for teams to enjoy doing their best work together.

Ways of Working

Sean’s approach is distinguished by analytical rigour coupled with a keen appreciation for the human and political complexities inherent to the public sector. He is motivated by complex problems and well-designed solutions, and his work can be characterised by its attention to detail and research driven approach.

‘Local and national efforts are intertwined – we need astute choices across the public sector ecosystem to encourage and accelerate local innovations that work’

– Sean Cregten

Client Impact

Sean recently led on a project with the Association of Police and Crime Commissioners, who commissioned Leapwise to improve the business case process for local fire governance and support PCCs leadership role in local police-fire collaboration

The project required an intimate understanding of both statutory requirements and local pressures and benefits for the public. Sean’s success is defined by his ability to achieve such a balance between stakeholder priorities, highlighting where they may diverge and meet to find mutually beneficial solutions. His focus on human-led design principles enabled him to propose user-friendly solutions to get the best results while avoiding unnecessary costs to the public. In this way, Sean embodies the behaviourally informed approach that is a cornerstone of the Leapwise perspective.
